Fun fact! Pirate spiders (Mimetidae) feed on other spiders by plucking the strands on the web of their victims to simulate the movements of a trapped insect. When the resident spider comes out to investigate, they are instead captured and eaten. Little is known about how male pirate spiders court females without being eaten, but some species (like this one) have enormously long appendages that they use to inseminate females from a safe distance.
