Oryctes nasicornis
European rhinoceros beetle is a big beetle that belongs to the Dynastinae family. It's a good flyer, in spite of its large dimensions. It is long about 2-5 cm, so is considered one of the most largest beetle in the Europe. The males of rhinoceros beetle have a long curved horn, but the females have a very small one, so they have marked sexual dimorphism. The life of this beetle completes in 3 or 4 years, but the adult lives several months, from the end of june until autumn. The adult does't feed, consumig riserves accumulated in the larval stages. The larvae grow in the decaying plants. The adult is nocturnal and spend the day buried.
Ground, decaying plants; it's attracted by artificial lights and flies in parks, gardens and woods.
