Gray rat snake

Pantherophis spiloides

Description:

5' long rat snake spotted about to ambush a broad-headed skink but unfortunately our presence interrupted its hunt. Did a very credible rattlesnake impression and actually sounded like a rattler when it vibrated its tail in the dry leaves.

Habitat:

Woodland trail in Percy Warner park

Notes:

Taken with iphone in low light so not great quality but this was a very handsome snake.
