The myrtle periwinkle is a trailing, viny subshrub. It grows from the early spring to the middle of summer. The color of the plant's flowers is usually purple or violet, but can also be pale.
It can be found in Central and Southern Europe, near the Baltic States, and in parts of North America. In North America, it is an invasive species.
The plant has evergreen leaves that can be 2 - 4.5 centimeters long. The plant itself can grow to be 40 centimeters. The color of "periwinkle" is named after the plant.
