Lernaea sp.
Lernaea is a parasitic crustacean, found on freshwater fish . The greenish yellow color branched pouches are the egg pouches. The eggs were about to released when we saw this. These parasites have a free swimming stage ( a copepod) and an attached form which bears eggs. These parasites were removed carefully from the fish and the wounds were cleaned with Potassium permanganate. Then until the wounds were healed they were kept in a separate tank.
Its been quit long the incident had happened , our large pond contained many types of fish , some aquatic plants were brought from a near by pond, this must have been the source of the infection, only the small fish were infected large fish like carps were safe . We cleaned the entire pond(including the gravel ) using potassium permanganate and dried the pond for a whole day and then only we released the healthy fish to the pond,, 100% water removal was done ,aquatic plants were removed now only the pond is returning to its normal stage again .
