A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Erythrura gouldiae
These birds are endemic to Australia but have sadly become a rare sight in the wild. They are classified as being "endangered in the wild" by the IUCN; it is estimated that there are fewer than 2,500 mature individuals remaining in the wild, though there are tens of thousands bred in captivity for the pet trade and kept by aviculturists.
Spotted in the National Aviary in Pittsburgh, PA
Beautifull male. They are endemic to Australia and endangered species. In the wild there are the red headed ones like this one and black headed. Whereas, in the captivity there are so many different color combinations. They are one of the most popular and expensive birds :).
WOW!! NuwanChathuranga those figures in your ID are incredible. Bred in captivity by aviculturists 13,000 and in the wild only 2,500!! Such a beautiful Bird.....Sad!
