Eastern Grey Squirrel

Sciuridae

Description:

Spotted this friend squirrel on a nature walk with my 4 year old.

Habitat:

Squirrels live in almost every habitat from tropical rainforest to semiarid desert, avoiding only the high polar regions and the driest of deserts. They are predominantly herbivorous, subsisting on seeds and nuts, but many will eat insects and even small vertebrates.[6] As their large eyes indicate, squirrels generally have an excellent sense of vision, which is especially important for tree-dwelling species. They also have very versatile and sturdy claws for grasping and climbing.[7] Many also have a good sense of touch, with vibrissae on their heads and limbs.[5]

Notes:

April 26 · · Taken at Tickfaw State Park 27225 Patterson Road, Springfield, LA, United States Also seen this day by my 4 year old and I : 2 snakes, 1 turtle, 10 lizards, 4 bees, 50 caterpillars, and 3 squirrels. I do have more photos of the same squirrel.

I will post many of the same species but I never do it in the same location. I believe they want to see where species can be actually located. Like we are getting species not common or rare to our location. I believe they call them accidental. Like getting the Tufted Duck or the Tropical Kingbird. Or the Northern Gannet on the Farallones.
I may even post at different times of the year so they can see if they are year round species or if they migrate. Hope this helps

Thank you Jellis and Neil!

It's up to the individual. I post up to 6 photos of the same spotting... and they don't even have to be great photos. This site is about documenting species, not about flawless photography. The personal notes also add a nice touch.

Pretty sure that is an Eastern Grey Squirrel

Opps. This was the first one i posted i need to get them all posted and straighten out all the facts with them. i was debating on posting the other shots of the same little guy or not to people do that or just the same photo only. i now the website gives the option to post more photos of the same nature shot.

This is a beautiful photo, Nathalie. Wonderful clarity of this cute little guy. Don't get too many squirrels down my way which is a pity. We have noisy possums instead. Love your notes too. PS: This pic goes in the mammal category.
