Papilio demoleus demoleus
Papilionidae; Papilioninae; Papilionini; Papilio demoleus demoleus Linnaeus 1758. (syn.) Papilio demoleus libanius Fruhstorfer 1908. "Papilio demoleus is a common and widespread swallowtail butterfly. The butterfly is also known as the lime butterfly, lemon butterfly, lime swallowtail, and chequered swallowtail. These common names refer to their host plants, which are usually citrus species such as the cultivated lime. Unlike most swallowtail butterflies, it does not have a prominent tail." Wikipedia.
Spotted this copulating couple of Common Limes in our garden on a Star Fruit Tree (Averrhoa carambola) locally called Balimbing. This would not normally be a plant of choice for the Common Lime. but In this case, our Balimbing and a Kalamansi Tree ( Citrus microcarpa) were planted too close together years ago and now their branches are intertwined. The butterflies probably thought they were sitting on the Kalamansi because there can be no doubt that they were surrounded by the aroma of lime.
