Eastern Garter Snake

Thamnophis sirtalis

Description:

I spotted this little (approximately 18 inches long) common garter snake while out mowing. Garter snakes vary in color and can reach up to four feet long. They also may be aggressive, though not venomous.

Habitat:

This snake found its home In our yard near a mulched berm with plants and flowers.

Notes:

I didn't want to get too close to this guy because he was ready to strike when I first approached him. Once I got my camera, he was tucked away under a rose bush.
