Bradypus variegates
Of the two families of slowths* found in Costa Rica, the Bradypus is the more familiar to most people. Its cryptically marked hair is grayish-brown with a darker face, white forehead, and raccoon-like bands on the eyes. The hair on the head tends to form a fringe which frames the face, adding to the ‘human’ appearance. Its face seems to have the look of beatific contentment and this apparent happy countenance has helped earn its well-deserved popularity’. The arms are nearly twice as long as the legs. Of slightly shorter body length to the two-fingered slowth*, with a head to tail length between 400 and 690 mm, it is considerably lighter, weighing a maximum of 6.5 kg. (from slothsanctuary.com)
