Family: Nymphalidae. Subfamily: Heliconiinae. (Fritillary) Wingspan: Up to 50 mm (2 inches). Orange to red on upperside with black zigzags on the interior of the wings.and 2 rows of black dots along the outside edges.HW is orange with purple brown and marked with tan and brown design. Adults feed on nectar of sunflower family and dandelions to name a few. Hosts: Violet family. First photo still attached to its chrysalis. Newly emerged.
Wet to moist habitats -meadows and fields, marshes and bogs.
