Southern White Admiral Butterfly

Limenitis reducta

Description:

I had never heard of this butterfly or seen one until this spotting in our garden. The body of the butterfly is black or dark brown with a faint blue iridescence and white spots and white band around the edge of its wings. The underside of the wings are brown and orange. They are common to Europe and Asia and belong to the large family of butterflies know as NYMPHALIDAE.
