Description:

This is the northern variety of the species from the British Isles having white inner eye spots instead of orange as the southern variety has. This species is unique among the butterflies of the British Isles in that it can overwinter in 2 stages, as both a larva and pupa.

Habitat:

seen at potteric carr nature reserve, doncaster.
