Description:

Bodies elongate-cylindrical and black overall. The head is narrower than the thorax. Provided we are correct with the family, which I think we are, given the pictures I have seen online, a characteristic of these beetles may be that they are also able to produce acoustical signals, in some cases more than many vertebrates. Adults produce the sounds by rubbing the upper surface of the abdomen against the hind wings. The larvae produce the sounds by rubbing the third leg against a striated area on the coxa of the second leg.

Habitat:

Santa Elena Cloud Forest, found in the sides of a small road.

Well Marta, the creator of the mission "El mini-mundo de Costa Rica" created for artropods is Ismael. If he doesn't mind your "wrong" uploads (like a frog recently) - I won't either...
And: Yes, I do help identifying species - as long as I'm sure about the IDs...

@tmvdh: I am now looking into "your" mission again but I don´t think I have added birds or mammals of any kind into this mission, which clearly says "Insects of Costa Rica". The way I remember I added only ONE spider by mistake because for a moment I thought it was for arthropodes and when you asked me I deleted it.
If you are referring to "mini-mundo de Costa Rica"..is that by the way "your" mission?? because this is where in the beginning I added a squirrel because I thought Mini-mundo referred to "small country" as Mini mundo does not necessarily imply by the title that is made for small animals, plants etc. This was my mistake for not to look at the explanation of the mission before adding the squirrel.
So, is there anything else as of now, time present, that I am adding to any of "your" missions that you want me to delete?

And well, yes, it would be nice that apart of being so careful and purist about the species being entered in these missions of yours, that you also help us a bit more with your entomologist expertise to identify some of the new spottings, ...why not?

I did already deleted everything that did not correspond to "your" mission..is there something else I missed, tmvdh? also: are there any other missions you made around, so I can be extra careful on what I add to them?

Marta, sorry - but my mission is called "Insects of Costa Rica" and I like to keep it that way... Therefore I kindly asked you to delete your spottings of spiders, birds and manmals ¡Pura vida!

It is OK, this already helps! At least you are there to try and help people ID their insects and not just to tell what belongs and what not, to particular missions! :-)
