Octopus stinkhorn

Clathrus archeri

Description:

even though this was slightly past its prime, I was still super stoked to see this. I had only seen them on PN before, so it was awesome to see one in the wild

Habitat:

cloudforest, 2400m

Notes:

I spotted this on the side of a road while hiking in the Cocora Valley. I just spotted a bit of red on the ground out of the corner of my eye and was super happy to discover it was this. Besides the bridal veil stinkhorn (which I also spotted in Colombia) this was #2 on my fungi 'wishlist'.

Thanks santiago. I did visit Manizales, but cities aren't really my thing.

hay una gran cantidad de estos hongos en manizales por malteria en la vereda gallinazo , por si te interesa volver a colombia y para que conozcas Manizales

Going back to Colombia wouldn't be so bad, would it Kathleen? I would love to go back!
