Spotting

Description:

Dry brown bracket fungus with dark rings and a gray dust on the cap. The point of attachment is the same color as the wood. 1" radius.

Habitat:

This saprobic fungus grew on a wooden fence.

Notes:

The "dust" may be spores. My guess at the ID is Stereum hirsutum. Other guesses include Hymenochaete species or even the rusty gilled polypore, Gloeophyllum sepiarium.
