Russula rosacea

Russula rosacea

Description:

A loose cluster of large fungi with dense white gills, a red felt top with umbo and upturned margins, a pink to red fibrous, thick, straight stipe. The largest ones were 200mm tall. Someone had already damaged these.

Habitat:

From soil in light undergrowth within a local nature reserve.

Notes:

Maybe equal to 'Russula sanguinea' in the northern hemisphere but that one is mycorrhizal on pinus. This might be the eucalyptus version? http://www.mushroomexpert.com/russula_sa...
