Palo Verde Beetle

Derobrachus geminatus

Description:

2-3" long. Black.

Habitat:

In my backyard in the Mojave Desert, CA, just sand and small rocks. There were also some oleander bushes nearby that I believe were planted decoratively, as well as creosote bush all around the apartment complex.

Notes:

I'm not sure on the month the photos were taken. I want to say it was between spring and summer.
