Amanita umbrinella
Bronze coloured, flattish cap with remnant veil nodules; 70mm across and about 120mm tall; narrow straight stem with remnant collar or ring continuous from half way to the top; dense simple gills; base was a large bulb just below ground level; growing from wet earth under a lot of woody debris.
In a small, wet gully in a local nature reserve.
Amanita sp. possibly in the Validae group (thanks to TheMiesMeister)

Validae certainly looks the right group. Thanks MM. I'll put it to Amanita for now.
It is an Amanita from the section Validae, which includes species like A. porphyria and A. rubescens. http://www.amanitaceae.org/?section+Vali...
