Masked Lapwing

Vanellus miles novaehollandiae

Description:

"The Masked Lapwing is mainly white below, with brown wings and back and a black crown. Birds have large yellow wattles [smaller in this subspecies] covering the face, and are equipped with a thorny spur that projects from the wrist on each wing. The spur is yellow with a black tip." (Birdlife Australia) This is the subspecies with a black stripe down the back of the neck (see pic 3) which runs into a collar along the top of the wings to the sides of the chest (see pic 1).

Habitat:

Hanging out at a park in Fernvale.
