Birds-Nest Orchid

Neottia nidus-avis

Description:

Unlike the other orchids these like shadowy places and we found them under trees near one prairy. This is because is a non-photosynthetic orchid. The birds-nest name appeals at the shape of their rhizome. They must have some pollen that ants like because I always saw some ants on them. As for the trees I cannot remember which type but conifers for sure.

Habitat:

Plitvice Lakes (Plitvicka-Jezera National Park), Croatia (June, 2016).
