Yellow Bedstraw

Galium verum

Description:

Lady's or Yellow Bedstraw is a low and scrambling, herbaceous perennial, ofen taking root where the stem touches the ground. It produces whorls of needle like leaves, and dense inflorescences of small (2 to 3 mm in diameter) yellow flowers.

Habitat:

The Yellow Bedstraw is widely spread Palearctic species. Here, found on edges and large forest pathwalk in our beautiful Bagasse forest (deciduous forest, predominantly oak) on France-Switzerland border, in a valley of lake Geneva, just in between Jura and Alps mountains ranges.

Notes:

There is a number of recorded uses of this plant - first as a straw for mattresses, because it has a flea repellent qualities. It was also used as medicinal plant for treatment of liver and kidney diseases; skin and nerve troubles. Beside, it was also used to coagulate milk and as a cheese dying agent. Moreover, it was also used as an infusing agent in liquor production.
