Great Horned Owl

Bubo virginianus

Description:

Stumbled across this recently fledged Great Horned Owl chick. I saw the bird from behind at first (2nd photo) and immediately knew that I was in a for a treat. The bird wasn't particularly well hidden but hopefully it learns the art of stealth and camouflage soon.

Habitat:

Woods near large pond.

Notes:

Checked to see if any adults GHO were around, perhaps standing guard of their young, but I couldn't detect any.
