Yellow Rat Snake

Pantherophis alleghaniensis

Description:

This is a local color morph of what used to be known as Elaphe Obsoletus - the Black Rat Snake (I believe). Around here its known as a Yellow Rat Snake or a Chicken Snake although its more olive green than anything else. Long dark stripes surround the traditional rat snake rectangle pattern down the length of the snake.

Habitat:

Mixed forest.

Well I guess it depends on who you want to believe ;) a study has split them up, though they did a very poor job with the genetics. People will know what you're talking about with either name and a reference link! http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/herpetology/fl-...
