Evening Brown butterfly (chrysalis)

Melanitis leda

Description:

18/7/13: Lime green chrysalis 22mm long, suspended from leaf blade of Urochloa maxima. Spotted 3 within a two metre transect of grassland. 25/7/13: I noticed the chrysalis was getting darker. 26/7/13: 10am the butterfly had emerged from the chrysalis and was hanging in situ, letting its wings 'set'. It sat there all day and into the night. Every once and a while it would exercise its wings.

Habitat:

Grassland in park.
