Thanks J! I figured you would come through. Asteroid moth is a fantastic name, but I figure I will remember Goldenrod hooded owlet better since my house is surrounded by goldenrod.

This looks very similar to a sphinx, although it is in the family Noctuidae. Another name for this species is the Goldenrod Hooded Owlet, but I thought this name was a bit more exciting. :-)
