Avocet; Avoceta

Recurvirostra avosetta

Description:

The marshes are now drying out rapidly and this lagoon will soon be dry and devoid of life yet on this day there were more than 30 species of bird present. Some will move locally to where the water remains but most will disperse elsewhere. Some autumn migrants were already present (Black-tailed Godwit, Greenshank, Curlew Sandpiper, Ringed Plover) but as their numbers increase in the next couple of months they may have to overfly to better areas further south.

Habitat:

Coastal marshes
