Northern River Otter

Lontra canadensis

Description:

Semiaquatic mammal Otters fall in the Mustelidae family along with weasels.They are insulated by a thick water repellent fur. They feed on fish, frogs and in some cases young water birds that might be swimming in the area. Length about 4ft and about 25 to 30lbs. Brown fur on back and lighter on underside.

Habitat:

Mainly found in waterways and adjoining lakes and in this case naturalized reclamation ponds.
