Large-Tailed Nightjar

Caprimulgus macrurus

Description:

Length : 28cm. Commonest nightjar in open grassy and cultivated areas throughout most of Borneo. in SE Kalimantan much less common than Savannah Nightjar. Also occurs in open grassy areas in hills and mountains where forest has been destroyed. Call : "tok tok tok" continuously, sometimes exceeding 100 toks or even more according to insomniacs.

Nightjars are amazing birds, so cryptic and a very haunting call especially when heard at night.
