Spotting

Description:

I thought it was a house fly until I looked closely. Could it be a queen ant?

Habitat:

Rural Norfolk.

Notes:

When I took this I was just playing around with the camera and thought I was taking a common housefly, but when I looked at the photo I realised it was not a housefly. It looks to me like a queen ant, but I may be wrong. I really do need to learn more about arthropods!

Thanks Eric and Green Reclamation for your thoughts. I think you may be right about it being a Rhopalum coarctatum. It fits the description and the habitat.

It is hard to distinguish between an ant or wasp... I took a guess
