Mimus polyglottos

Description:

A mockingbird alertly guarding its territory. The bird is a gray, long-tailed bird with white outer tail feathers and white wing patches that flash conspicuously in flight as it feeds on insects and chases intruders, including cats, from its territory. The song of the mockingbird is that of many other birds. It is common for an individual bird to have as many as 25-30 songs in its repertory.

Habitat:

Observed in an open area of a college campus. From its trred perch it snatches insects from the open area. Local landscaping provided the mocker with berries and nuts.

Notes:

The mocking bird of Texas. Its song of the mockingbird is that of many other birds. It is common for an individual bird to have as many as 25-30 songs in its repertory. Having one bird in your yard allows you to hear the many of the songs you would hear in a local aviary.
