Morelia spilota mcdowelli
This Carpet Python (Carpet Snake) was more than 10 feet long. Grey and brown markings all over body, white belly areas, head large and triangular shaped with obvious thermoreceptive labial pits. Mostly nocturnal but sometimes seen enjoying the warmth of the sun. Feeds on rodents (native and introduced), small mammals, birds, other reptiles and chickens!
Found throughout Australia, the six known sub species range in colour, pattern and adult size. This specimen known as the Coastal Carpet Python is found in eastern Queensland and north east NSW. This one removed from shed on property after helping itself to more than a few chicken dinners.

Hi guys! I lived in Australia for four years and just moved back to America:( Great specimen and have been bitten by one? I was hiking and a baby bit my finger.
Goodness! I believe mine looks that dark in part because of the low light in the rain forest and the dark green shades around. I didn't want to boost the ISO too much.
Your snake looks much darker, still incredibly big specimen! A few chickens survived, but this was one of several same species of snakes in residence, plus another 3 Eastern Brown Tree Snakes. A busy and popular 'boarding house'!
I understand... I hope there are still a few of those chickens left :-(
Check the size of this one!

Thanks Daniele! It was a nice specimen but it had to be moved on to a safer place for all concerned.
