Epicoma melanospila
A solitary caterpillar about 25 mm long with black body speckled with white. Long black hairs covered the body and along the mid-line were tufts of ochre-coloured hairs. Prolegs were red. Head was black rimmed with red and had an inverted "V" shape along the midline.
Spotted feeding on a eucalyptus leaf in a nature reserve.
My thanks to martinl for the ID. The moth is beautiful. Here is martinl's spotting of the adult: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/790... family: Anthelidae
Thank you so much for the ID Martin - I see that it turns into a beautiful moth too !
Check this one that I found last year. Since it was already a late instar, I bred it out. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/790...
