Variable Fan-Foot Moth

Zanclognatha laevigata

Description:

Family: Erebidae, Subfamily: Hermeniinae. Delta-shaped, flat-winged noctuid litter moth. TL: 18-21 mm. FW is variable in color and pattern. Dark gray with pretty design. Straight AM and bulging PM lines are often bordered with brown or blackish bands. Median area can be pale tan, orange or dark gray. Wavy ST line curves toward apex. Hosts: Unknown, possibly dead leaves. Adults feed on plant juices.

Habitat:

Woodlands, fields and gardens. Feeding at night in garden near front porch light.

Notes:

Night flash. Feeding on Daylilies in my garden.
