Saddled Prominent

Heterocampa guttivitta

Description:

A vibrant caterpillar in the Notodontidae family, Heterocampa guttivitta, the Saddled Prominent has shades of lilac purple on the head, as well as gorgeous abdominal patterns. Looking closer at the first photo it appears the caterpillar may have been attacked by a parasitical wasp of some sort. I would be very interested if someone could pinpoint the wasp which appears to have parasitized this caterpillar.

Habitat:

Found under an Oak (Quercus sp.).
