White-Tailed Deer

Odocoileus virginianus

Description:

White-tailed Deer are reddish-brown with a white belly and tail in Summer. In Winter, the reddish-brown changes to grayish-brown. It has white on its throat, around its eyes and nose, on its stomach and on the underside of its tail.

Habitat:

The white-tailed deer lives in wooden areas. They can be found in in southern Canada and most of the United States, not including Southwest, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Notes:

The white-tailed deer is an herbivore. It feeds in the early morning hours and in the late afternoon. One of the main predators of the white-tailed deer used to be a mountain lion and gray wolves, but today their main predators are humans and dogs.
