Crane Fly with Mites

Description:

This poor little Crane Fly of only 1 cm in length was carrying around a huge load of red mites attached to it's thorax. They might weigh as much as the fly itself and must create a problem for flying. It did manage to fly however. Family Tipulidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
