Red Squirrel

Sciurus vulgaris

Description:

Small rodent with a rusty-red colored coat and cream colored underside, measuring about 20 cm in length head-and-body, while the tail measured about 15 cm in length. Males and females are the same size.

Habitat:

Boreal and coniferous woods, urban areas with trees.

Notes:

The red squirrel is protected in most of Europe, in some areas it is abundant and is hunted for its fur.
