Carniolan Honey Bee

Apis mellifera carnica

Description:

About 1/2" long. Yellow and black striped. Pollinating in my garden.

Habitat:

High desert grassland. 4500' elevation at the base of an oak forested mountain range.

Notes:

The exact species identification is derived from the fac tthat this bee is actually out of one of my hives. While not native to the area, these bees are a familiar sight in and around parks through out the High Desert region and San Pedro Riparian area.
