Description:

Tentatively placed in Fungi. Off-white colored, firm to the touch, crust-like formation. Brown speckling. Tiny pores on surface. Any ideas?

Habitat:

Temperate forest. Found attached to a dead pine branch that was on the ground.

I think this may be a type of slime mold. Not classified as fungi anymore, but closely related. Fascinating organisms, here is the wiki page, it's worth a read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slime_mold...
