Emperor cortinar

Cortinarius sp.

Description:

Looking somewhat like an Amanita muscaria from above this fungus turned out to be a very red version of a Cortinarius archeri. Still with some partial veil to break free, a young specimen, very viscid, much of the white scales still remain on top. About 40mm across the cap. Good mimic trick Ca !

Habitat:

In damp wood and leaf mulch in a national park.

Notes:

ID under review... Carcheri does not have purple gills. Common name 'Emperor cortinar" from Tasmania? http://www.eukalypt.org/fungi_tertiary_p...
These turn a plain tan brown when mature. The spores are tan-golden coloured. The 'strings' visible in some pics are pseudostipes from a mycena http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/321...
