Woodland Box Turtle

Terrapene carolina carolina

Description:

This handsome fellow decided to go for a dip in the small fish pond next to the house and then couldn't get back out. After pulling him from the water, he ran straight to the woods behind the house. I have since added stones to one side of the pond so animals can climb out. Glad I found him before he drowned!

Habitat:

Suburban yard with woodland/marsh/stream nearby.

Notes:

One of the most brightly colored box turtles I have found.
