Coral Bean

Erythrina herbacea

Description:

Bean pods on a shrub about 6 feet tall. All the branches with pods were bare, almost dead looking. I believe the leaves seen are from a plant growing next to this one but it is possible it is new growth from the same plant. The pods were very dark, almost black with bright red beans. There were some pods longer than the pictured ones with 6-8 beans inside.

Habitat:

Growing about 100 yards from a brackish bayou in sandy soil along a road.
