Seen on a jackfruit tree leaf (Artocarpus heterophyllus) in a large semi-urban yard & garden not far from a disturbed patch of wood with a few remnant lowland forest trees, in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

It looks a bit like some of our Scaptia (Tabanidae) but we can't see any mouth bits.
