American Alligator

Alligator mississippiensis

Description:

American Alligators have green leathery armored skin with bony armor plates along its back and tail. It also has a broad snout and about 80 teeth. One of two species of alligator in the world: Chinese Alligator and American Alligator. The male can grow as big as 1,000 pounds.

Habitat:

The American alligator inhabits freshwater wetlands, such as marshes and cypress swamps from Texas to North Carolina.
