Tasmanian Wedge-tailed Eagle

Description:

The Tasmanian Wedge-tailed eagle is the Tasmanian endemic sub-species of the Australian Wedge-tailed eagle. It is a noticeably large eagle, with a characteristically wedged-shaped tail.

Habitat:

Eucalyptus forest.

Notes:

There are fewer than 200 pairs of Tasmanian Wedge-tailed eagles left on the island of Tasmania.

They need old growth forest. That's the biggest problem. Too much of the logging in Tasmania is old-growth-forest. Which are entire ecosystems. not just the trees. We have a pair that nests only a few kilometers from us, because of a 1000 hectare reserve. When we see them near our house, unfortunately our resident ravens drive them away. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/337...
