Rheumaptera hastata ssp. thulearia
Possibly the most Arctic moth spotting on PN and for Moth Week 2013! These two Icelandic specimen were photographed within 5 km of each other. The second landed on my husband's nose and the background was blurred post-shot for clarity. A single of this moth generation flies in June and July. Foodplants, bog myrtle (Myrica gale) and birch (Betula spp.).
Þingvellir National Park, Iceland, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Birch woodland. The last shot shows the habitat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%9Eingve...
The same subspecies is also shown here in Iceland: http://www.flickr.com/photos/erling_olaf... See also: http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?bf=1787
No, unfortunately not. I did not have the time for a profound search, I did the ID between two extractions ;-)...
Jemma and bayucca, thanks! Bayucca, great! Do you have more info about the thuleria subspecies?
