Hypotrachyna Lichen

Description:

Very striking, ‘clean’ lichen with thallus lobes that have very angular appearance; resembles the pieces of a zigsaw puzzle. Thallus foliose, ca 2.5 - 3 cm in diam., tightly attached, subdichotomously lobate Lobes sublinear, elongate, plane to slight wrinkling, 1-2 mm wide, initially separate, becoming contiguous to almost overlapping; margin: entire; apices subtruncate. Upper surface whitish gray, smooth, matte with no isidia, soralia, pustulae and dactyls (finger-like protrusions on the upper cortex).

Habitat:

Growing on fallen branch of hardwood tree (species not identified) in predominantly deciduous woods.
