Hypotrachyna sp.
Very striking, ‘clean’ lichen with thallus lobes that have very angular appearance; resembles the pieces of a zigsaw puzzle. Thallus foliose, ca 2.5 - 3 cm in diam., tightly attached, subdichotomously lobate Lobes sublinear, elongate, plane to slight wrinkling, 1-2 mm wide, initially separate, becoming contiguous to almost overlapping; margin: entire; apices subtruncate. Upper surface whitish gray, smooth, matte with no isidia, soralia, pustulae and dactyls (finger-like protrusions on the upper cortex).
Growing on fallen branch of hardwood tree (species not identified) in predominantly deciduous woods.
Thanks to Malcolm Hodges for ID Possibly immature Hypotrachyna livida. http://lichenportal.org/portal/taxa/inde...
