Thank you, we came across a sub adult on one of our field trips, although I can't post the photo due to the rights through funding, here is the link to the story:http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/...
I have often heard that is common to see bears in Romania near the cities. Imagine going to put your trash out in the night and there they are :-)I love to see them though and that there are places where they can be protecetd from humans. One of these days I must go to see them :-) Thanks for posting, is a wonderful spotting!
These bears were once completely wild, but now live a semi wild existence. They were taken from the wild as cubs for entertainment, but rescued and now live in a forest in peace, they are still formidable animals and more dangerous than those that have not had human contact and it was incredible to see them.
There are a lot of stories of maulings here too especially in the spring when the cubs are around and then in the autumn when they are fattening themselves up for winter and come into the villages in search of food.
I would love to see them too! on the other hand is scary..I have heard one too many stories about the grizzly bears in USA, that must be why :-)
amazing and yes! I am currently studying bear populations in Transylvania and to be honest most of the time once they see you they turn and run!
Wow! how was this encounter? were you at a safe distance?
