Description:

Distinctive orange wings with darker bands. Wings measuring 7 to 9.5 cm. Has impressive tails and false eyes to confuse predators. Resembles a leaf from underside (pic3). This is the only one that I saw.

Habitat:

Spotted at the edge of a wooded area at the National Butterfly Center near Mission, Texas.

Notes:

Adults nectar on a variety of plants. Range from Brazil to Texas.
